News:

PAC DIV SIGNS TO A MAJOR!!!!!!
The Smoking Section reports PD got signed. Great news for a talented bunch of MC's:

Just got word that Pacific Division signed with Universal yesterday, and man am I relieved.

About a week ago, rumor had it Pac Div were going to be the premier act to sign with Jermaine Dupri’s new TAG Records – a Proctor and Gamble/Island Def Jam effort to meld product with product. When I mentioned the contract on the table, Gotty™ said “I hope they sign with invisible ink.”

While the TAG Body Spray deal seems well intentioned – what with immediate spotlight shine and a hefty signing bonus – the Over/Under is bleak. JD inevitably pops up in his artists’ videos and adds a real weak-sauce glaze to the whole swag, not to mention instant association with the splashy Funkdafied or kiddy Lil’ Bow Wow. When is the last JD project you were really feeling? Because it was probably Kris Kross and you probably only liked them because they were your own age and the radio was fresh at the time.

That aside, had Pac Div signed with TAG, they would forever be known as “the TAG group.” It would be infinitely harder to shake the image of product placement, however great or small, than it will be to get Universal to put out a quality record. And Pac Div got records. It would be a damn shame to have their music lost to the pages of gimmick history.

CARTER TRES

THE WEEK IN REVIEW
COP IT JUNE 10th

Tha Carter III by Lil’ Wayne On the opening track of Lil’ Wayne’s long awaited Tha Carter III, he declares his dominance on the game despite the fact that his last aolo album was released three years ago. “3 Peat” is filled with punchlines highlighting his power in the Hip-Hop game, the cleverest of which refers to him “ball[ing] til we fall like tears.” After this very energetic intro, C3 includes a very diverse tracklisting that will suit any Lil’ Wayne fan’s taste. The only similarity between every track is amazing production. Aside from one or two songs with semi-lazy production, Young Money picked very good tracks to spit his usual non-sense. Lyrically, Wayne is on point on nearly every song, bringing cleverness and insight where many thought Weezy was incapable. From the street anthems like “A Milli” and “Got Money” to the swooning R&B inspired tracks like “Comfortable” and “Tie My Hands”, Mr. Carter’s lyrics are clever and well thought out (in most instances). “Dr. Carter” is the most lyrically complete track, where Lil’ Wayne acts as a doctor operating on Hip-Hop itself. The albums single, “Lollipop” almost gets lost among the other tracks, fitting in perfectly and becoming surprisingly less annoying when listened to in succession with the rest of the album. Overall, this is a very cohesive album that flows together very well and is enjoying to listen to. Lil’ Wanye might not be the next Nas or KRS-One but this album will definitely live up to the hype that has surrounded it for nearly three years. Favorite Tracks: “Mr. Carter” “Phone Home” “Tie My Hands”

D’Evil Rating: 9/10

WHILE WE ARE IN THE WEST WHAT ABOUT WASHINGTON STATE?

THE WEST COAST IS BACK? and an interview with....

THE WEST IS BACK...
This is how we chill from 93 till  Grin....despite successful groups like "Souls of Mischief" the west coast has never been able to get away from its gangsta rap perception. that is until now...in recent years there has been a parallel resurgence of hip hop in the west coast. acts like Murs,U-N-I, etc.... have takin the coast by the throat...showing the world that theres more to the west than just 40s and guns....(written by Marcus Mcfly)

MURS
A Recovering myspace addict. Not adding anyone till I get someone to handle this. Thanks for your patience. I had a long beard til i cut it off, Never home always on tour, strict vegetarian almost vegan but I got a shoe problem.
He is the only rapper with his own music festival. Each album he releases sells more than its predecessor. He toured the world without having a major record deal. So, there’s a reason why independent rap stalwart Murs decided to name his major label debut album Murs For President (Love And Rockets). Murs wants to be rap’s leader and spokesperson, the artist who helps give rap a credible face to fans, the media and critics. After all, the Los Angeles rapper is articulate and well read. He doesn’t use drugs and his platform consists of peace, love, unity and having fun. “If you’re going to put idiots like Cam’ron on TV, put me on TV,” Murs says, referring to Cam’ron’s uninformed appearance on 60 Minutes in early 2007. “Let me speak for hip-hop. I’m the one guy who is qualified to represent us to the masses -- which are obviously tired of us because hip-hop can’t sell records. It can only sell ringtones. It’s become a mockery of itself. It’s become club music. For us to lead back into the marketplace and to be a respected art form, I feel that I’m the most qualified person. It’s time for hip-hop to have a change.”

TaUAndC: ok Introduce your self
Bdone: Im Bdone, no dashes cause people always seem to put them in there. Im 13 years young and im from Miami. im an mc
TaUAndC: your only 13  wow how long have you been rapping?
Bdone: close to a year, i think around july it will be a year of rapping.
TaUAndC: man thats amazing, i remember the first time i heard you i thought that this album wasnt gonna be worth listening too but it was beyond worth listening to it was great man
TaUAndC: um what and or who inspired you?
Bdone: thanks for listenin man
Bdone: A lot of stuff inspire me. From pictures to movies to music. Some rappers that still have a big influence on me are Nas, Common, Kanye, Guru, and A Tribe Called Quest
TaUAndC: for a young guy thats a lot of lyricist
Bdone: I guess you can say thats my main focus.
TaUAndC: man how did you get into them?
Bdone: Well at first i was mostly a radio guy. I heard a couple of Kanye songs so i began to listen to a lot of Kanye's music. Then i watched that rhymes and life video and listen to what inspired him and through those artist i heard others that associated with them until my knowledge of artist became very wide.
TaUAndC: So tell us about Basic Knowledge (your ablum)? What is the theme and what is the title about?
Bdone: Well i called it Basic Knowledge cause i feel i havent gone to complex but then i give you a taste of that in Mind Complexions. The things i say are what i have thought in my mind without getting to into it. Im not really so sure how to explain it
TaUAndC: Cool. Whats your single from the album?
Bdone: my first single was It's a movement; however, it was removed from the album completely. So the first real single was Gotta Keep On followed by Eternal ft. KJ. After some time, i released Giants ft. K2 and the current single is Closer ft. Wonda & KJ.
TaUAndC: so what can we look forward to in the future from bdone?
Bdone : Im in the works of a mixtape all prod. by DJ Premiere and 9th Wonder, i may do some of them over the summers and i may do a Malcolm X inspired EP.
TaUAndC : man thats cool man TaUpandComings.blogspot.com wishes you succes and all that good shit and tell the people where they can get your mixtape
Bdone: ight man thanks a lot
Bdone: as of right now just a couple of blogs but i will be posting it soon on myspace www.myspace.com/therealbdone or www.bdone.tk
