Rockie Fresh.

Rockie Fresh, Chicago MC his first offering i heard "The Otherside" started with A.C. Green which was cold! set the tone for the whole mixtape. He has a nice delivery and the production on that tape was superb. He's gearing up for a new project entitled Supply n Demand. The first leak off of that is About It

WU LYF

So who are these masked people in the picture above you ask? Well they are WU LYF (World Unite/Lucifer Youth Foundation) a heavy pop band from Manchester, England. The band also refers to themselves as WU LF, Tu-Wang Gang, and a couple other names as well as being formerly known as Vagina Wolf. Other than that, there's not much information about them since they've taken a very mysterious approach to the music game and have not done any interviews (oh they are big fans of Wu-Tang Clan). Many have said that their mystique is simply a gimmick and they're just trying to garner attention, but after you actually listen to their music you'll understand why people are extremely excited to see where this band goes. Since last year, the band's buzz has skyrocketed and A&R's have been desperately trying to get their greasy paws on them, but have so far failed largely due to the fact that WU LYF is already content with doing things their way. They sort of remind me of OFWGKTA in the sense that they have this cult-like aura around them that their fans have really backed up, not to mention how both utilize their intensity and mystique to full potential to make the masses go crazy over them. The "dramatic, tortured" lead vocals could take some getting used to for some, but what has really drawn me to the group is their style of play on the guitar, their constant incorporation of the organ (it just gives me this very nostalgic feeling whenever I hear it, I can't really explain it), and the amazing imagery they portray in their music videos. Currently the band is prepping their debut album titled Go Tell Fire To The Mountain, which is set for a June 13th release date via L Y F Recordings and continuing to tour around the world (they recently just played their first shows here in the US in New York). Below is the first offering from their previously mentioned upcoming debut album and is called L Y F (featuring a clip of Ol' Dirty Bastard speaking on MTV at the end of the video).

Download L Y F here along with a compilation of what I believe to be is the rest of their, so far released, music here.

Childish Gambino

Childish Gambino, also know by Donald Glover, actor, comedian, and apparently a musician. Known for his roles on the on Community, 30 Rock, and his campaign to become spider man. A musician since high school recently he has got the attention of many people including me. After being Reluctant about the actor rapper who made "hipster" music (especially since i hate drake) my homie sosa introduced me to his music i downloaded Culdesac (link below) a few days before his free ep released and i've been hooked ever since. I wouldn't compare him to anyone in Hip-Hop but he has a unique style of music, live instruments, unique delivery, and lines.

H.I.S.D. - "The Weakend"

For my debut post, I decided that I'd share a largely unrecognized gem from last year by H.I.S.D.. Hueston Independent Spit District, based out of Houston, Texas, is a group consisting of four rappers by the names of Equality, LdaVoice, Savvi, and Scottie Spitten, two producers who go by E-Classic and King Midas, and Flash Gordon Parks their DJ/photographer. First off, what makes this group great is that they've managed to create their own sound, a difficult task to do nowadays, which is sort of like a blend of Little Brother and OutKast. Back to the album though, H.I.S.D. takes you on a journey from Houston to Space City, a parallel dimension, as they explore this familiar yet very different place where they eventually have to fulfill their destiny by stopping The Weak. All four emcees deliver a solid job with the rhymes, balancing each other out with their individuality, but where "The Weakend" really shines is the production aspect. Big ups to both E-Classic and King Midas because they created some beautiful music on this album. Each track is filled with a variety of instruments arranged together perfectly that paints an incredible picture of the setting for the album's story. The album is best to be listened to as a whole as it flows seamlessly and please, at least, on your first listen use headphones or you'll miss out on the subtle instruments.

Rating: 9/10

Favorite Song(s): "Piano Sunrise (Feat. Michele Thibeaux)", "Point Of Know Return (Feat. D. Rose)", "Space City Express"

Joe Cool - Mixtape For No Fucking Reason

Joe Cool (@joefncool) brings us his newest solo effort, Its a very fun project to listen to. I cant say two tracks are similar on this project which is a good thing, he's pretty versatile. He did majority (if not all) of the production on this project which is very well done. Alot of Upbeat tracks with a upbeat delivery they suite each other well. I enjoyed listening to the project alot.
My Favorite Track - FnCool featuring Rich Hil , and 1901.
