H.I.S.D. - "The Weakend"

For my debut post, I decided that I'd share a largely unrecognized gem from last year by H.I.S.D.. Hueston Independent Spit District, based out of Houston, Texas, is a group consisting of four rappers by the names of Equality, LdaVoice, Savvi, and Scottie Spitten, two producers who go by E-Classic and King Midas, and Flash Gordon Parks their DJ/photographer. First off, what makes this group great is that they've managed to create their own sound, a difficult task to do nowadays, which is sort of like a blend of Little Brother and OutKast. Back to the album though, H.I.S.D. takes you on a journey from Houston to Space City, a parallel dimension, as they explore this familiar yet very different place where they eventually have to fulfill their destiny by stopping The Weak. All four emcees deliver a solid job with the rhymes, balancing each other out with their individuality, but where "The Weakend" really shines is the production aspect. Big ups to both E-Classic and King Midas because they created some beautiful music on this album. Each track is filled with a variety of instruments arranged together perfectly that paints an incredible picture of the setting for the album's story. The album is best to be listened to as a whole as it flows seamlessly and please, at least, on your first listen use headphones or you'll miss out on the subtle instruments.
